Chinese Medicine is a system of medicine that began 5,000 years ago. Its theory is based on our connection to nature and the concept of yin and yang—which represents harmony and balance. Chinese Medicine is interested in the root of cause of our imbalances. These can be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual imbalances which manifest as symptoms. In Chinese Medicine, any illness or symptom, whether it be a knee pain, headache, indigestion or a serve depression, is associated with an imbalance in the person's energy. Five Element Acupuncture affects the whole person, body, mind and emotions, and treatment is directed towards relieving the cause of the person's problems, rather than to suppressing symptoms.
The vital energy. know as "Qi", travels in the twelve pathways know as "meridians" or "channels". Each meridian corresponds to one of the vital organs such as the kidneys, liver, heart, stomach, lungs and each of them has a pulse associated with it which informs the acupuncturist of the condition of the energy within that meridian. The twelve pulses are located on the wrists. Sometimes one meridian has too little energy and another too much.
By inserting very fine needles into the points which lie along these meridians, a proper balance and flow of energy can be re-established. Energy can be summoned to the places that need it and dispersed from the areas where it is congested and causing a blockage. When our inner environment becomes optimal deep healing can take place and life-changing epiphanies may occur.
